Netscape resumed use of the Navigator name from Netscape Navigator 9.0 beta 1. Netscape 8, properly called Netscape Browser, was a distinct browser based on Firefox that could use either the Gecko (Firefox) or Trident (Internet Explorer) engine. Netscape 6 and 7 was a new Internet suite based on the Gecko engine and the Mozilla Application Suite user interface.
